Product Manager recruitment for SaaS and AI companies

Search for Product Managers, Senior PMs and Directors of Product in venture-backed SaaS and AI companies — hired against the customer and commercial reality, not a generic product competency grid.

Product sits next to go-to-market rather than inside it, but at Seed to Series C the two are inseparable: the PM is usually the person closest to why deals are won and lost.

We recruit product managers for the same companies we build commercial teams for, which means we screen for customer proximity and commercial judgement as hard as for delivery craft.

The roles we run

Product Manager
Owns a surface end to end: discovery, prioritisation, delivery with engineering, and the outcome after launch.
Senior Product Manager
Owns an area with real commercial weight and sets the direction rather than receiving it.
Technical / AI Product Manager
Works close to model behaviour, evaluation and latency trade-offs, and can hold that conversation with both engineers and customers.
Director of Product
First product leadership hire: sets process, hires the team, and takes the roadmap conversation off the founder's desk.

What we screen for

Customer proximity first. A strong early-stage PM can describe the last ten customer conversations they had, what surprised them, and what they killed as a result. A weaker one describes a framework.

Then commercial judgement: whether they can explain a decision they made that cost the roadmap something and won the company revenue, or the reverse — and defend it.

Finally delivery. Shipping cadence with a small engineering team, without a programme manager underneath them.

Product management in AI companies

AI products break the usual certainty of the spec. Behaviour is probabilistic, evaluation is a product surface in its own right, and the failure modes are commercial as often as technical.

We look for PMs who have shipped something where quality was measured rather than assumed, and who are honest about what the model could not do. Candidates who describe AI purely as a feature list rarely survive contact with the first enterprise security review.

How the search runs

Product searches run on the same process as our commercial searches: a full intake covering the product, buyer and roadmap pressure, a written shortlist with a rationale per candidate, and structured feedback throughout.

Most run contingently. Director of Product and above can run retained where confidentiality or exclusivity matters.

Common questions

When should we hire our first product manager?
Usually when the founder can no longer hold discovery, prioritisation and delivery alongside everything else, and engineering is starting to wait on decisions. Hiring a PM to invent the product vision rarely works; hiring one to own and accelerate a vision that already exists does.
What makes an AI product manager different?
Output quality is probabilistic, so evaluation, guardrails and the honest description of limitations become part of the product. The best AI PMs have shipped something where quality was measured with real data rather than judged by demo.
Do you recruit product managers as well as GTM roles?
Yes, for the same client base. Product is adjacent to go-to-market, and the companies we work with usually hire both in the same twelve months. It is not a separate practice with separate standards.
Product Manager or Director of Product first?
Hire an individual product manager while there is one product surface and a founder still close to it. Hire a director once there are multiple surfaces, more than a couple of PMs to hire, or a founder who has become the bottleneck on every roadmap decision.
