Go-to-market
Search for the hybrid commercial-technical hire that now sits underneath modern go-to-market: pipeline systems, enrichment, agents and automation, owned by someone who understands the sales motion they are building for.

Average to identify the ideal candidate after intake
The GTM Engineer is the newest role in the commercial org and the least standardised. In one company it is a technical growth hire building outbound systems; in another it is revenue operations with the ability to write code; in a third it is the person wiring AI agents into the pipeline motion.
We separate those definitions at intake, because the candidate market for each is different and the three groups rarely overlap.
Two things happened at once. Outbound became harder as inbox volume rose and generic sequences stopped converting, and AI tooling made it possible for one technical person to do work that previously took a team.
The result is seat compression: companies want the same pipeline from fewer people, and the highest-leverage hire is often the person who builds the system rather than another person to work it manually.
The screen is practical. Candidates are asked to explain a pipeline system they built, what it replaced, what it cost, and what it produced in meetings or revenue — not which tools they have used.
We also test product comprehension: a GTM Engineer who cannot explain your product and buyer in plain language will build automation that is technically sound and commercially useless.
If the message has never been validated by a human doing the work manually, a GTM Engineer will automate a motion that does not convert. Prove the motion first — usually founder-led — then hire someone to scale it.
If the requirement is really reporting and CRM hygiene, hire revenue operations. If it is really pipeline generation by hand, hire an SDR. Naming the role correctly is most of the value of the intake.

I built and scaled these teams myself. I made the hiring mistakes — that’s why I started Tipped.
